WE DELVED INTO THE LOVE MORE BRAND TO FIND OUT WHY ERIC THINKS POSITIVITY AND HUMAN KINDNESS IS THE KEY TO TOP CLASS BARBERING.
Eric is a self-described creative barber who wants to share his experiences and product knowledge with the world. The educator extraordinaire is launching his lifestyle brand this year, LOVE MORE.
We wanted to know why he chose the brand name? “My philosophy is that if we love more, the world would be a better place. The lifestyle products that I will be sharing with my followers are things I truly love, and feel would be beneficial to all barbers and hairdressers out there.”
Let’s get to know the man behind the brand. Eric’s career started back in 1993 as a ladies fashion designer in South Africa. In 1997, the designer- turned-educator moved to the UK where he opened his couture boutique in London’s West End. Since then, he has dressed some of the world’s most famous women, including Dame Shirley Bassey and Ivana Trump. Britain’s Next Top Model is also on his repertoire as well as being commissioned to design several dresses for Sex and the City. The designer told us when his love for men’s grooming began: “During my time as an international celebrity fashion designer, I developed a keen interest in men's grooming. I kick-started my barbering journey in 2015 at the prestigious EDGE Hair & Barber Academy in Stellenbosch, South Africa.”
Was being in beauty the long term plan? “I enjoyed working with people and wanted to always make people look and feel happy – and I knew I could do this through men's grooming.” In 2015, the beauty and fashion expert became the proud owner of two businesses in Cape Town: Groomed Barber Academy and Groomed Men. In 2021, he became a figurehead at Head Quarters Barbers & Beverages and The Bluebeards Revenge. Early 2022, he was appointed as Artero UK Ambassador and Global Educator: “Groomed Barber Academy is an educational facility specialising in traditional barbering education combined with fashion forward, avant-garde trends. This academy offers students the chance to learn from scratch, or else sharpen their barbering, styling, and grooming skills. “Groomed Men is a men-only grooming emporium where clients can get pampered from head to toe, from cutting to waxing and grey coverage to eyebrow threading. I developed Intelligent Hair Technology as a unique hair system for gents suffering with hair loss.” Eric continued, saying that positivity has a huge impact on the beauty industry – if professionals aren’t in a good head space themselves, how can they provide premium service to their clients? “As a barber and educator, the environment I work in needs to be my happy place and an extension of my home so that I can feel comfortable to perform my best. People often don't understand that negative energy can have a huge impact on a creative person and barbers are hugely talented, creative people.”
What’s the best part of the job? “The best part of being an educator is sharing my knowledge. I want others to reap the benefits of my experience – that’s how people pick up good habits and refine their craft from day one. I believe that my ability to teach barbering in such an open way is a gift for passionate young barbers who’re embarking on a new career and lifestyle.”
What’s next for 2023? “This year, I'll expand my lifestyle brand to more sectors of the industry, offering advice and guidance on products that I love and want to share. My ongoing involvement in education will be broadened not only with Head Quarters Barbering Academy, Artero, and The Bluebeards Revenge, but also other lifestyle products.” Eric gave us exclusive insight: “I'd like to introduce Release_SCE to everyone!
